A spectacular military bust type
Lot 3082
Constantine I, 307/310-337. Follis (Bronze, 18 mm, 2.95 g, 6 h), Rome, circa 320. CONSTANTI-NVS AVG Draped and cuirassed bust of Constantine I to left, wearing crested pseudo-Corinthian helmet and holding spear in his right hand. Rev. VIRTV-S AVGG / P - R / R T Campgate with closed doors and three turrets. RIC -. Roma E-Auction 90 (2021), 1346 (same obverse die, but bust misdescribed). Of the highest rarity, the finer of just two known examples. A very attractive piece with a spectacular military bust type. Minor deposits, otherwise, about extremely fine.

From the collection of Dr. L. Ramskold, formed since 1969.

This very attractive coin is one of the most spectacular in the Ramskold Collection, as this bust type was previously unrecorded for Constantine I (it is similar to RIC H1, but also draped). It is the finest of two known examples, both in private hands.
